What PlugEV does
PlugEV is the central system that manages, monitors, and bills across an EV charging operator's network. Each charger connects to PlugEV via OCPP 1.6-J over secure WebSocket. The platform handles authentication, session control, real-time telemetry, fault management, and billing — across multiple charger brands with very different OCPP implementations.
The first version went live in 2024 with 40+ chargers across 2 Indian cities. It still runs in production today.
Core features
OCPP 1.6-J Gateway
WebSocket gateway implementing the full OCPP 1.6-J protocol. Built in Go for performance and concurrent charger handling.
RFID Authentication
Offline-capable RFID auth as fallback when API gateway is unavailable. Per-card limits, per-station permissions.
Real-time Monitoring
Live charger status, session telemetry, and meter values streamed to the operator dashboard.
Automated Billing
Per-session and time-based pricing. UPI / Razorpay integration. Auto-generated GST invoices.
Vendor Quirks Handling
Per-vendor compatibility layer that normalizes the messy reality of OCPP implementations across charger brands.
Mobile-Optimized
Both rider mobile flow and operator dashboard work cleanly on phones — most rural sites have only mobile access.
